My story

I have faced challenges throughout my life due to ADHD and dyslexia. These struggles have ignited a passion within me to help other students with similar difficulties find their love for learning and take ownership of their education. In this paper, I will reflect on my journey and discuss my goals and aspirations as a future special education teacher.

Growing up, my struggles with ADHD and dyslexia made school a difficult and frustrating experience. However, I was determined to succeed and find my place in the world of learning. As I grew older, I discovered that when given the right tools and opportunities, I could overcome these challenges and thrive in my education. This realization ignited a desire within me—a desire to help other students with similar struggles find their love for learning and take ownership of their education.

As I embark on my journey to become a special education teacher, my primary goal is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to take charge of their education and work together in a collaborative atmosphere. I want to implement a variety of teaching methods and tools designed to empower students and foster a love for learning. My aspirations as a future educator include:

Empowering students with learning differences: By understanding the unique needs of students with learning differences, I hope to make a meaningful impact on their lives. I will provide students with the tools and support they need to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.

Implementing hands-on learning experiences: I believe that giving students opportunities to build and create can help them develop a deeper understanding of concepts, improve their problem-solving skills, and grow as learners. I will incorporate hands-on learning experiences into my teaching to engage students and cater to diverse learning styles.

Encouraging collaboration and teamwork: I aim to create a classroom environment that fosters collaboration and teamwork among students. By working together, students can learn from one another, develop essential social skills, and build a strong sense of community.

Promoting self-advocacy and autonomy: I believe that students should be encouraged to take ownership of their education and advocate for their needs. I will provide opportunities for students to set goals, make decisions, and reflect on their progress, fostering autonomy and self-awareness.

Engaging in continuous professional growth: As a future educator, I am committed to lifelong learning and professional development. I will actively seek feedback from students, colleagues, and mentors to refine my teaching practice and better support my students’ unique needs.

My journey has been shaped by my own struggles with ADHD and dyslexia. These challenges have fueled my passion for helping other students with similar difficulties find their love for learning and take ownership of their education. By focusing on empowering students, implementing hands-on learning experiences, and fostering collaboration and autonomy, I am confident that I can make a lasting impact on the lives of the students I will teach. With determination, perseverance, and the right tools, I believe that every student, no matter their struggles, can succeed and make a difference in the world.
